The Battle is The Lord’s

The LORD will fight for you while you [only need to] keep silent and remain calm.”. EXODUS‬ ‭14:14‬ ‭AMP‬‬

IMG_1454The children of Israel stood trapped … the Red Sea before them, the army of Egypt behind them. There was NOTHING they could do to save themselves! They needed a GOD sized miracle, and they got one. As soon as they stepped out in faith and their feet touched the water, the sea divided and “made a way when there was no way.”

As I read Exodus 14:14 this morning I was reminded of a recent situation where someone was literally spewing their anger toward God at me. Their friend had just lost a two month old baby and of course they were devastated and in shock at the seeming injustice of it all. As the young man continued to accuse God I felt the Lord tell me to be still. “I do not need you to defend me. Do not respond.”

You may not see the connection, but it felt as if I was being verbally attacked as a representative of God. It was not my battle to fight. Had I disobeyed the Lord, I could have done more harm than good.

When we feel helpless, we can be confident in the Lord. We can trust that He will fight FOR us. When we have done all that we can do, our battle becomes the Lord’s. As the Israelites had to step forward toward the sea, we are often called to fight in the war room of prayer.

Father, I thank you that “no weapon formed against me shall prosper.” As my Father, I can trust you to protect and provide for me. Nothing is impossible for You. Help me to recognize when I need to fight and when I need to simply be still and see the salvation of the Lord. When it feels like I am defeated remind me that I am not alone and that You will fight for me.

It’s time to FIGHT!

IMG_1318My heart is broken by the violence taking place in the world today. You can’t turn on the television or look at social media without seeing a stream of shootings, rioting, hate being spewed out against our fellow man. Watching it makes my blood boil. My human reaction is to lash out in anger, “What’s wrong with these people?!?” And then I am reminded of Ephesians 6:12  “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

We must realize we are fighting the wrong enemy. It is as if a demonic spirit of rage has been released over the Earth. This is not a battle that can be won in complacency. It is not a war that can be won by retaliation. This war will only be won when we carry the fight to The Father. This is a battle to be fought on our knees. Our violence and vengeance must be directed toward the hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places!

Satan has three goals: to KILL, STEAL and DESTROY. (John 10:10) An epic war is coming and He knows his time is limited. He could not overthrow Heaven, so he directs his hated of God towards the sons and daughters of man. He doesn’t have to kill us … he only has to compel us to kill one another! Never in my lifetime have I seen the disregard for human life I am seeing today.

Jesus came to give us LIFE … abundant life. He commanded us to LOVE our enemies, not stoop to their level by repaying evil for evil. “But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you.” (Matthew 5:44) This goes against our flawed human nature. “But, what about justice Lord?” His reply, “Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” (Romans 12:19)

Loving, in the face of such atrocities seems impossible, BUT with God … “all things are possible!” (Matthew 19:26).

I’m not suggesting we do ‘nothing’. Far from it! I am suggesting we take up the weapons of warfare provided by the Spirit and wage war against the REAL enemy. Satan belongs under our feet. Call forth the hosts of Heaven. I implore you today, and everyday, drop to your knees and fight for humanity.
